ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

Welcome to our world of architectural services

Where innovation meets sustainability, and every project is a testament to our passion for the environment. At Beck and Beyond, we believe that architectural design should be more than just aesthetically pleasing; it should also be ecologically responsible. Our commitment to sustainable solutions guides every step of our design process, from the first stroke of the pen to the final construction phase. We make it our mission to seamlessly blend creativity with eco-conscious choices, ensuring that your project leaves the lightest possible carbon footprint. Our architectural process is a journey that takes your vision from concept to reality.

Preparation and Briefing

In this phase, we work closely with you to gather all the necessary information and insights, ensuring that we have a thorough understanding of your needs and desires. This step is crucial for shaping the project's direction.

Concept Design

With a clear vision in mind, we develop a concept that reflects your unique style and requirements. Our innovative designs take shape, integrating sustainable elements that are in harmony with the environment.

Technical Design

Our technical experts dive into the nitty-gritty details, ensuring that your project is both practical and efficient. We consider factors like energy, materials, and construction techniques that minimize waste and resource usage.

Manufacturing and Construction

We work hand-in-hand with skilled builders and manufacturers to bring your design to life, always keeping a watchful eye on environmental impact and quality craftsmanship.

At Beck and Beyond, our architectural services are a fusion of art and science, where your vision and the environment converge in perfect harmony.

The more people are connected to their environment, the more they care for it.

We connect people to their environment in order to foster a sense of care for the planet. Our architecture is centered around light, nature, and communities.

We understand that environmental, social, practical, and economic issues are all interconnected, so we integrate these considerations throughout our design process. We seek a dialogue between people and their surroundings, and we strive to involve experts, consultants, stakeholders, and users from all backgrounds in every stage of the process.

Our goal is to create buildings that not only meet the needs of their occupants but also enhance their connection to the natural world. We prioritise the use of sustainable materials and practices and incorporate the principles of biophilic design to connect people to the built environment.

By fostering a sense of community through our designs, we believe that we can create spaces that inspire people to care for their immediate and wider world.

Lightening our carbon load

Our design principles are efficient and sustainable to reduce a building’s carbon footprint. Our approach is both energy efficient and beneficial to people’s wellbeing. We are committed, with our clients willingness, to achieving Net Zero in line with the RIBA 2030 Challenge.

Passive design

While we always strive to design with passive massing, insulation and orientation principles, we also understand the value of measured certification. As such, Beck and Beyond is proud to have certified Passivhaus Consultants on our team. Passivhaus design is an important part of creating sustainable, low-carbon buildings, and we have a wealth of experience in delivering high-quality, low-energy buildings that meet the needs of our clients and the communities they serve.

The future is green and bright

Greening the city improves the health, sustainability, and quality of life in urban areas for people of all ages. Together, these benefits may help alleviate some of the stresses that humans in metropolitan areas face in the future. We are committed to incorporating landscape and green space into all of our designs for the benefit of our ultimate clients, the users of our buildings and places.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Project management is a crucial component of architectural services, particularly for complex construction projects. Architects often take on the role of project managers to ensure the successful execution of the design and construction process. Here are key aspects of project management within the realm of architectural services:

Project Planning

Architects work with clients to define project goals, objectives, and requirements. They create project plans that outline the scope, budget, timeline, and quality expectations. This planning phase may also involve initial site assessments and feasibility studies.

Budget Management

Architects play a role in managing project budgets. They provide cost estimates, monitor project expenses, and make adjustments as needed to stay within budget constraints. This includes value engineering to find cost-effective solutions without compromising the design's integrity.

Scheduling

It is important to create and maintain project schedules that outline the construction timeline, milestones, and critical deadlines. They work to ensure that the project progresses as planned, addressing any delays or issues that may arise.

Quality Control

Quality control is a critical aspect of architectural project management. Overseeing the construction to ensure that the work meets the design and quality standards is vital. Our architects will conduct site visits, inspections, and review any necessary deviations from the plan.

A building's Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the environmental impact of a building over its entire life cycle, from its initial construction and occupancy to its eventual demolition or renovation. We help you identify opportunities to reduce resource consumption, emissions, and waste, ultimately leading to more environmentally responsible and energy-efficient building designs and practices.

Environmental Impact Evaluation

To quantify and assess the environmental impacts associated with the building throughout its life cycle we assess factors like energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, resource depletion, and waste generation.

Identification of Improvement Opportunities

By analysing the entire life cycle, LCA helps identify areas within the building's life cycle that have the most significant environmental impact. This information allows you to focus on improvements that can make the building more sustainable.

Key components of a building's Life Cycle Assessment typically include

Our team assesses the environmental impact of design choices, materials selection, construction methods, and transportation of materials to the construction site. We further analyse the ongoing energy and resource use during the building's occupancy, as well as the maintenance activities required to keep the building functional. We consider the environmental implications of building renovations or retrofits including materials used and changes in energy efficiency. Evaluating the impact of demolition, disposal, or recycling of building materials and waste generated is the final stage of the LCA. In some cases, occupant behaviour and usage patterns may also be factored into the assessment to understand how building occupants contribute to its environmental impact.
